Los Angeles, CA — A new twist has rocked the ongoing conversation around Tory Lanez’s conviction in the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. Jaquan Smith, Lanez’s former bodyguard and driver, has submitted a sworn affidavit claiming that it wasn’t the Canadian rapper who fired the gun that night—but Megan’s ex-best friend, Kelsey Harris.

In the affidavit, Smith states he witnessed Harris holding the weapon during the heated argument following a Hollywood Hills party in July 2020. According to him, Lanez tried to de-escalate the situation and physically take the gun away from Harris when it suddenly went off.

These claims directly challenge the result of the 2022 trial, where Lanez (real name Daystar Peterson) was found guilty on all counts and sentenced to a decade in prison. At the time, the court relied heavily on Megan’s testimony and a text from Harris that read, “Tory shot Meg.”

But Harris’s role in the case has remained murky. Her own testimony was riddled with inconsistencies and abrupt reversals—at one point she invoked her Fifth Amendment right multiple times and denied seeing who fired the gun.

In a now-deleted Instagram Live from late 2023, Megan directly addressed rumors implicating Harris, saying, “Kelsey didn’t f—ing shoot me,” while also questioning her former friend’s silence. “Why would you get online and say it wasn’t you if you know damn well it wasn’t?” she asked.

Tory’s defense team is pushing for the affidavit to be considered as part of his appeal. But so far, the California Attorney General’s Office isn’t moved. They argue the document doesn’t qualify as new evidence and stand by the original conviction, citing consistent witness statements, physical evidence, and DNA.

Still, the affidavit has stirred intense public debate, especially among fans and supporters who believe Lanez’s side of the story hasn’t been fully heard.

With appeals in motion and new claims coming to light, this high-profile case is far from over—and the fight for Tory Lanez’s freedom is clearly entering a new phase.
