Every day across the United States, Humanity Heroes works tirelessly to provide essential living supplies to individuals experiencing homelessness, whether they reside on the streets or in shelters. Since its inception, the organization has touched the lives of more than 80,000 homeless individuals and families, while distributing over $3,000,000 worth of non-perishable items to both people and pets in need nationwide.
The Journey of Michael “BigMike” Straumietis
In 2011, everything changed for successful entrepreneur Michael “BigMike” Straumietis when a near-death experience transformed his perspective on life and purpose. Following this pivotal moment, BigMike channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into humanitarian work.
Initially, while living in Bulgaria in 2012, BigMike established Holiday Heroes, his first venture into nonprofit work. Through this organization, he successfully united food and beverage companies in a common cause, leveraging corporate donations to bring joy to families in need. As a result, Holiday Heroes provided festive meals during Christmas and Easter to more than 27,500 families, along with distributing tens of thousands of toys to children who would otherwise go without.
Yet for BigMike, this accomplishment was just the beginning. Upon relocating to Los Angeles, he encountered firsthand the devastating conditions faced by the city’s unsheltered community. The stark reality of homelessness on the streets of LA deeply affected him, prompting further action.
Drawing from his considerable business success, including his role as founder and leader of Advanced Nutrients, BigMike operates under a clear principle: companies blessed with financial resources carry a social responsibility to help humanity. This belief drove him to take decisive action in Los Angeles.
Consequently, in 2016, BigMike founded Humanity Heroes, which has since grown into a powerful force for change. Through partnerships with seventeen homeless shelters and charities, the organization has supported over 60,000 homeless individuals and families.
Unlike traditional charitable approaches, BigMike believes in direct engagement. He regularly walks through Skid Row, personally connecting with residents to understand their most pressing needs. Through these conversations, he discovered a critical gap: many individuals lack basic living supplies that most people take for granted.
This hands-on approach exemplifies Humanity Heroes’ commitment to making a tangible difference in people’s lives, one person at a time. By maintaining direct contact with the community they serve, the organization ensures their efforts address real, immediate needs while preserving the dignity of those they help.
